After we went through to Sydney due to bad weather all day, We have made first stop in Coffs Harbor. This is a relatively sleepy backwater, and rather than the hostel, the beach at night and the village pub as we have not actually seen it. With further bad weather we went on to Byron Bay, one of the surfing meccas of the East Coast. Here is the same found a super good backpackers, with pool, private bathrooms, separate kitchen, free surfboards, BBQ area, private balcony and much more for very little money. The beach itself is sufficient as long as the eye has very fine, golden sand and is actually hard to beat. The waves were not so the screamer and we could not legally have small boards, so it has the surfing experience held somewhat in check, but at 30 degrees, sunny and super beach do we grumble sometimes not:) The water is now a whole corner warmer than Melbourne, so you can go without a wetsuit swim quite loose, which is really very pleasant!
